Electric shock link to motor neurone disease

People who suffer a severe electric shock could increase their chances of developing motor neurone disease (MND), according to the results of a new study.

MND is a progressive degenerative disease of the motor system which causes muscle weakness and wasting. Now French researchers say that there could be a link between severe electric shock and developing MND.

They examined people who had suffered electric shock and found that all had developed MND and that the disease started at the point of entry of the shock.

There is no cure for MND.

The research is published in the latest edition of the 'Journal of neurology, neurosurgery and psychiatry'.
